2026 Holiday Shipping Surcharges: UPS, FedEx, USPS & Amazon Shipping

Official 2026 peak-season parcel surcharge windows and selected fees from UPS, FedEx, USPS and Amazon Shipping, with practical 3PL planning implications.

Direct answer

All four major parcel options reviewed here have 2026 holiday price pressure, but the structure differs. UPS and Amazon Shipping publish three peak windows with base per-package charges of $0.50, $0.75 and $0.50 on key residential or economy services. FedEx uses similar seasonal windows but varies charges by service and also applies large non-standard-package fees. USPS applies a temporary price increase from October 4, 2026 through January 17, 2027 by service, zone and weight. For 3PL buyers, the key planning task is to model carrier mix, package size and weekly volume before peak rather than adding a single generic peak percentage.

2026 benchmark table

Fee / metricBenchmarkWhat buyers should normalize
UPS Ground Residential / Ground Saver$0.50 / $0.75 / $0.50 per packageApplies Oct 25–Nov 21, Nov 22–Dec 26, and Dec 27–Jan 16; higher-volume shippers can face separate weekly peaking tables.
UPS Additional Handling demand surcharge$8.75 / $11.90 / $8.75Separate from the underlying Additional Handling charge; applies during the published demand periods.
UPS Large Package demand surcharge$96.25 / $117.50 / $96.25Large-package exposure can dominate peak economics for bulky products.
FedEx Ground residential / Home Delivery$0.50 / $0.80 / $0.50 per packageFedEx periods run Oct 26–Nov 22, Nov 23–Dec 27, and Dec 28–Jan 17.
FedEx Additional Handling demand surcharge$8.80 / $11.85 / $8.80Non-standard package charges become especially material during the central holiday window.
FedEx Oversize demand surcharge$95.75 / $117.25 / $95.75Bulky-item brands should model oversize exposure independently from normal parcel demand fees.
Amazon Shipping per-package demand surcharge$0.50 / $0.75 / $0.50Applies Oct 25–Nov 21, Nov 22–Dec 26, and Dec 27–Jan 16.
Amazon Shipping Large Package peak increment$96.25 / $117.50 / $96.25Amazon also lists additional handling and extra-heavy peak increments for qualifying packages.
USPS temporary holiday adjustmentOct 4, 2026–Jan 17, 2027Commercial and retail increases vary by service, zone and weight; there is no single USPS peak surcharge number.
USPS Commercial Ground Advantage, Zones 1–4, 0–3 lb+$0.40Compare zone and weight mix; heavier and longer-zone shipments carry larger temporary increases.
USPS Commercial Ground Advantage, Zones 5–9, 26–70 lb / oversized+$7.70The spread shows why a blended surcharge percentage can be misleading.

What the numbers mean in a real 3PL comparison

Peak cost is now strongly package-profile dependent

The largest seasonal charges are concentrated in additional-handling, large-package, oversize and over-maximum shipments. Brands shipping bulky, irregular or heavy cartons need a separate peak model rather than relying on average parcel cost.

High-volume programs need a weekly volume model

UPS and FedEx both publish special peak logic for larger shippers tied to baseline or peaking factors. A 3PL with strong carrier discounts can still produce a higher peak bill if weekly volume surges into a more expensive surcharge tier.

Carrier diversification only helps when the package and service mix really fits

Moving volume between UPS, FedEx, USPS and Amazon Shipping can reduce exposure, but only after checking service eligibility, package dimensions, zone distribution, promised delivery speed and negotiated account terms. A lower base demand fee can be offset by other accessorials.

3PL quote comparisons should include a peak-season scenario

A normal-month cost-per-order model is incomplete for seasonal brands. Ask providers to price the same Q4 package mix and volume curve, and specify whether carrier demand surcharges are passed through at cost, marked up, bundled or subject to minimums.

Methodology

Research standards →
  1. Carrier figures come from official 2026 UPS, FedEx, USPS and Amazon Shipping sources reviewed on September 24, 2026.
  2. For UPS and FedEx, the table shows selected high-signal domestic peak charges rather than reproducing every service and high-volume tier.
  3. For USPS, we preserve the official service/zone/weight structure because a single average surcharge would misrepresent the temporary price change.
  4. Contract discounts, fuel, base transportation, delivery-area charges and other accessorials are outside these figures unless the carrier source explicitly includes them.
  5. This page is event-driven and should be reviewed whenever a carrier changes the published peak schedule or surcharge amounts.
